Hello Captain,
Creating environmental visual effects is a median between respecting science and creating art. Science drives the logic behind when something should be visible and how intense that should be, and art is where the subjective part comes in. Creating art in-sim has many limitations, and we can only work with the tools it provides.
With an effect like heatblur, the rendering engine had limitations that didn't allow us to replicate something with as much fidelity behind it, like our wing condensation effect.
Over time, we've observed some of the logic starting to break down, and our heatblur was, in some cases, blocking the default aircraft heatblur effect from being visible. This led to a fair mix of feedback on which 'looked better,' with users on both sides default / SimFX. This is expected as art is subjective, but it also underscores our unwavering commitment to continually improving our work, ensuring the best possible user experience.
Due to platform limitations, we are unable to let users choose default OR SimFX heatblur on some aircraft. Therefore, we've decided to revisit heatblur effects and make some changes. Thanks to the modular SimFX architecture, we can deploy options like this to allow flexibility and choice alongside other expansions, such as our Immersion Packs.
- IF YOU prefer Default Heatblur Simply update SimFX, the new build can now only turn the default heatblur on/off on aircraft that have it coded in a way that allows it. (which can help with performance)
- IF YOU prefer SimFX Heatblur Continue utilizing it with a free & optional download (here). Drop it into the Community folder.
- IF YOU are on Xbox You will revert to default aircraft heatblur effects with this SimFX update.
