Two Weeks of ChasePlane: Soft Launch Recap

Two Weeks of ChasePlane: Soft Launch Recap

Hello Captain,

Two weeks ago, we rolled out ChasePlane to our Club 42 members as part of a limited soft launch. The goal? Stress-test our systems, gather early feedback, and make sure everything is dialed in before going wide.

Thanks to many dedicated Club 42 members, we've made major progress.

What's Working

From Cinematics™ to FlyBy™ and Tower Cam™, ChasePlane is already becoming part of how people use MSFS daily. Many of you jumped straight into customizing views, sharing them to the community and creating your own camera control workflows just the way it was meant to be used.

We've also seen some creative ideas and workflows we hadn't considered. While not everything is technically possible, a few of those requests are making their way into the public release. Even we can sometimes overlook the small things that improve quality of life, and customer feedback helped surface them.

What We've Learned (and Mostly Fixed)

Most users had a solid first run with ChasePlane, but a small segment ran into issues. These cases aren't widespread, but the impact is high enough to delay a full release.

  • Activation Errors: A few users ran into activation issues on launch day. These were resolved after some quick back-end changes.
  • Cloud Preset Syncing: A handful of users had trouble syncing presets via our new cloud infrastructure. We're working through these cases directly.
  • WASM Crashes: In some configurations, the WASM module crashes. Unfortunately, MSFS doesn't allow it to be restarted without rebooting the entire sim. We're working on eliminating all ChasePlane connected WASM issues.
  • Input Compatibility: There are countless unique hardware setups out there, and I think we've seen them all in the past two weeks. We're continuing to improve our input mapping code so every button, knob, and switch is bindable. This is a HUGE task!

So far, we've shipped four official updates and pushed out dozens of specialized builds with direct input from Club 42 members. Each one moved us forward towards the public release.

Why We're Still Holding the Public Release

I know, I know; you are ready and "can't wait any longer." But pushing out a public release right now would put a strain on both our team and your experience.

We're a small company. If we launch before these blockers are resolved, we'd end up buried in support tickets, and you'd end up frustrated. That's not how we do things, and we won't be strong-armed into giving in.

We want this to be a clean experience on both sides. So, we're continuing to fix, implement, and polish. When it's ready, you'll know.

Looking Ahead: MSFS 2024

Yes. As previously stated, we're looking ahead to MSFS 2024. The platform continues evolving, and the next few Sim Updates will bring significant changes. While we've started foundational work for compatibility, we're not yet committing to a full-time development effort until the platform stabilizes. One step at a time.

Hey, Thanks!

If you've submitted feedback, reported bugs, or even just spent time exploring ChasePlane, thank you! You're helping shape a great experience for everyone.

More updates soon.
