The Reality of Limitations...
ChasePlane breaks the mold of what an add-on can be in MSFS. As a result, we encountered a few simulator bugs and limitations that prevent some functions from working at 100%. Pay attention to the list below. Keep in mind that any future sim or ChasePlane update can add to or remove from that list. This is a living document.
Please do not purchase if you think you will be affected by any of them.
VR
MSFS 2024
Currently not supported. You will encounter issues in VR, try at your own risk.
VR
MSFS 2020
ChasePlane for MSFS 2020 works in VR with the following limitations:
- The depth perception of the mouse cursor can be off (on the right eye) while in the cockpit if the view is moved from the default pilot position. We are currently working to resolve this issue.
- The mouse cannot be used to pan/tilt the camera. Control assignments must be used to perform those. We will keep researching how we can make this work.
- The Smart View will not work in VR. We are working to resolve this issue.
-
In MSFS 2020, panels cannot be displayed while in external or world view. This is true without ChasePlane as well and cannot be mitigated.
Night Vision Goggles (NVG)
Currently not supported. MSFS 2024 has added the ability to use NVGs on some aircraft. ChasePlane has no way use/render NVGs and other "post process" views at this point in time.
Flashlight
ChasePlane comes with its own flashlight. Due to some technical limitations, we cannot use the default flashlight the sim provides. You must assign a key in ChasePlane to toggle the flashlight. Currently, the ChasePlane flashlight cannot be activated above 15 knots.
Activities/Missions/Career Modes
MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 on SU4
Currently not supported. MSFS 2020 and 2024 don't allow mods to be active during some activities/missions/career and ChasePlane is no exception to that rule. If the mission you are trying to fly doesn't give you access to the default camera control panel, ChasePlane will not be accessible or functional either. We recommend uninstalling ChasePlane via the installer to go back to the default camera system if you plan on using those.
No pilots in external view?
MSFS 2024 only on SU4
The pilot is hidden for now due to an internal issue with the sim. Until this reported issue is resolved in the sim, we are hiding the pilot entirely to avoid conflicts when using ChasePlane.
Camera clips inside of the copilot
MSFS 2024 only on SU5
The copilot will remain visible when the camera comes close or moves into the copilot body. Until this reported issue is resolved in the sim, we recommend moving the copilot views forward to avoid clipping into the copilot avatar.
Depth of Field
MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024
Only supported in World views. Due to some technical limitations, depth of field can only be activated in the world views. This is something we are looking to resolve in future updates.
Default Replay System
You cannot use ChasePlane (or move the camera) when using the default replay system or an add-on that relies on the default replay system (like GEES). Just like with the default camera system, the simulator disables all camera variables during replay, and nothing can be done to move the camera. We recommend alternatives like SkyDolly and FlightControlReplay.
Xbox Controller as PRIMARY flight controls?
ChasePlane cannot switch between allowing your Xbox controller to control the plane OR the camera. If you use an Xbox controller to fly your plane/helicopter or drive your vehicle, we recommend a second controller to bind camera controls, drone, etc.
Checklists
You will lose the ability for the sim to move the camera when clicking a checklist item. Due to the way built-in checklists are integrated, the camera cannot be moved to a checklist item selected from the checklist panel.
Tobii Eye Tracker
MSFS 2020
Supported on the Experimental branch. Support for Tobii devices is available only in the Experimental branch of ChasePlane. This support will soon be moved to the Stable branch for everyone to use.
